Watched the “jukebox play” Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill. No plot except Billie Holliday gets sloshed and unravels on a nightclub stage. Great jazzy sound. Would have been amazing if drinks and maybe light food were served throughout the performance.
Watched The Marvelous Wonderettes, a jukebox musical featuring retro tight harmony girl group songs. With such incredible voices, it’s a shame they used prerecorded accompaniment. Kinda wish there was a plot too.
Watched the overhyped Crazy Ex-Girlfriend live with Srikanth and left early. Way too millennial for us to handle. Plus it ended up being more of a concert/comedy show (when I was expecting a musical). Never even seen a full episode myself!
Attended Shen Yun, a classical Chinese dance show banned in China (jeez communism!). It was good but I could do without the cheesy projections and the particularly rude audience. Stop talking/eating/coughing/texting and control your kids! — attending Shen Yun 2018 – Seattle at McCaw Hall.
Afternoon matinee of The Vagina Monologues. Surprised how similar it was to the hilarious MADtv spoof. Disappointed that 1/3 of the monologues used notecards. But very vivacious vivid verse and verbiage.
